UTILITY POLES
This product category covers two main
uses of poles namely: Telephone poles for overhead
telecommunication lines and, Transmission poles for overhead
power lines.
TELEPHONE POLES
Telephone poles are made according to SABS 753 unless
otherwise specified. Normally poles of 6.0m to 9.0m in length,
of lighter diameter in size are used and are prepared to
customer requirements prior to treatment. Poles can be
pre-drilled gained and labelled as required.
TRANSMISSION POLES
Transmission poles are prepared according to SABS 753 or
any other specification as required by the customer. Poles of
up to 22m can be produced. Diameters are determined by
strength class required. In South Africa this is determined by
the top diameter, but when compared with international
specifications the Theoretical Ground Line usually determines
the strength class, and top diameters are adjusted depending
on the average taper of the pole. Woodline's clients have the
assurance that poles are manufactured according to their
exacting specifications.
BUILDING AND FENCING POLES
These poles are prepared and treated according to SABS 457, and come in a variety of lengths from 1.2m to 7.0m and diameters from 50mm to 200mm. Poles are normally pine but fencing droppers and laths are usually made from the Eucalyptus species. Poles are treated according to the intended application and may be utilised for indoor H2 or marine H6 uses.
These products are used for fencing, vineyard and orchard trellising, thatch roof structures and general building purposes.
ROUNDED PINE
Cylindrically
machined poles are commonly used
for playground structures, building projects and guard-rail
posts, the product is also used as raw material for the
construction of modular log homes and other timber buildings.
POST AND RAIL FENCING
This easy to erect type of fencing uses
cylindrical poles drilled and machined to create an attractive
ranch style effect. Posts have domed tops and are drilled to
customer requirements for number of rails, corner posts, end
posts, line posts and un-drilled bollards.
